The pre-flight check blocks on both
The pre-flight check on Release cards — the "Before you release" list — refuses to release while any learner is missing a conduct rating or a comment for the period. Each shows as its own blocker with a count and a link: conduct straight to the Conduct grid, comments straight to the comment boxes on Report cards. Clear both counts and the blocker disappears on its own.
Kindergarten to Grade 3 is the exception: a descriptive class has no conduct grid and no comment box — the narrative does that job — so neither blocker applies there.
Where to watch the counts
The Conduct page shows who is marked on all four core values, and the "12 of 38 written" counter on Report cards tracks comments. Both turn green at the full count, and the pre-flight reads the same numbers — there is no separate list to reconcile.
Why they block
An unmarked value would print an empty cell in its period column, and a learner with no comment would get an empty Teacher's Comments line — no dash, no placeholder, and no hint to the parent that something was meant to be there. A card like that reads as a printing fault, so the release waits instead.
Afterwards
A released period is closed to both. Marking is refused on the grid, and a comment saved on a released period gives "The report cards for Term 1 are already released, so their comments are closed. Take the release back first if a comment must change."
To fix one:
- Class → Release cards → Take back the release.
- Mark the values on Conduct, write the comments on Report cards.
- Release again. The cards go out as a new revision, so nobody is left holding two different cards with no explanation.
Taking a release back stops the old links working, so it is worth spending the two minutes on both counters first.
