What linking does
A standalone gradebook joins an adviser's section. From then on the adviser's roster is the source of truth for learner names and LRNs, so one child is never on the section twice under two spellings.
Every activity, component weight and score you encoded is preserved. Only learner identities change, and grades recompute afterwards from the same scores.
What changes for you
- The learner list becomes the adviser's. You can still see it, but learners are added and edited on their roster.
- The section label comes from the class.
- The adviser sees your computed grades on the report card, and your encoding progress on their Subjects page.
Either side can propose it
- From your gradebook: sidebar → Link a class. Classes at your school with the same school year, grade level and section name are listed under Classes that look like this section, each with Attach my gradebook to this class.
- From the adviser's class: their Subjects page lists standalone gradebooks that look like the section, each with Ask to link.
Both of you have to agree. The party who did not ask reviews the learner list and decides; the other side is told by email and by a notification in the app. A request expires after 14 days.
Saying no
Press No, keep it separate in the gradebook, or Not now on the adviser's Subjects page. Your gradebook keeps working exactly as it is. There is no half-linked state.
What if it refuses
- "That gradebook is already linked to a class." A gradebook belongs to one class.
- "That gradebook uses a different grading structure from the class." The grade level and the grading periods have to match on both sides. A three-term class cannot take a quarterly gradebook.
- The class already has that subject. The message names the gradebook. Ask the adviser to remove theirs, or join it as a co-teacher with its subject code.
- No class is listed. The match is on school, school year, grade level and section spelling. Fix the Section label on Subject settings to match the adviser's spelling. If the school on your gradebook is wrong, the class code is the way in — it works regardless.
