On a standalone gradebook there is no adviser, so the owner edits the learner list too.
Two things that surprise people
An adviser cannot encode. They open every subject's class record and see its computed grades, but typing a score belongs to whoever owns that gradebook and their co-teachers. Ask the teacher, or take the gradebook over with an Owner (hand over) invitation.
The hat switcher grants nothing. What you may do is decided by the thing you opened — the class, the gradebook, the learner — never by which view you are in. Switching between adviser and teacher only changes what the sidebar shows.
Locked and archived
A locked gradebook is read-only for everyone, its owner included. An archived class can be read but not changed, and nothing new joins it.
Learners
A learner signs in to the portal and sees their own released grades and report cards. Not the class list, not another learner's row, and not a term you have not released.
What if
- A teacher says they cannot see a subject you added. They are not on it yet. Send them the class code, or invite them from the class's Subjects page.
- You can see a subject but every control is missing. You are on it as read only, or the gradebook is locked. The Teachers page of that subject shows which.
